• As a local resident you will already be aware that extraction of underground gas storage has had no effect on ground conditions and by utilising our existing Lindholme facility and simply refilling the natural gas reservoir, our proposed development will have no material impact on the local community.
• The underground storage of gas occurs 400 metres (1,300 feet) below the ground surface.
• The safety record in the UK for gas storage and depleted field storage is extremely good. In the case of depleted reservoirs (such as Hatfield West) they have naturally contained either gas or oil for many millions of years and more recently have co-existed with human activities, with populations living above them.
• The Hatfield West facility will require ScottishPower to obtain landowner consents as the proposed storage area lies underneath agricultural land a number of homes, businesses and HM Prison.
