- The development of Hatfield West will entail the use of the existing gas storage reservoir at Hatfield West for gas storage operations.
- The drilling of a new well into the Hatfield West reservoir and a connection of a new underground gas pipeline to the existing Lindholme Gas Processing Facility, which is to be modified.
- The Hatfield West gas reservoir is a layer of porous sandstone approximately 400m (1,300 feet) below ground.
- The reservoir previously contained gas, which over the last 18 years has been extracted and the reservoir depleted. It is now proposed that the reservoir will be used to store additional gas imported via our existing Facility and new pipeline.
- During normal operations, in periods when demand is low, gas under controlled freeflow conditions will be fed from the national gas transmission system (NTS) into the reservoir and when demand is high and or supply is limited, gas will be pumped from the reservoir back to the NTS for use.
