- The gas storage facility, which is a depleted natural gas field was first discovered in December 1981 and gas production began in January 1986.
- ScottishPower has operated at Hatfield Moor, since 2000. As a local employer we strive to be a good neighbour, and are helping Doncaster utilise its natural gas storage resources to play its part in the gas supply chain.
- The Hatfield Moor gas storage facility is one of several consented and operating onshore gas stores in the UK. It is used solely by ScottishPower to store gas to meet shortfalls in the UK gas supply and to protect gas customers from peak prices.
- The existing site can currently hold enough gas to meet the peak demand of around 450,000 domestic customers.
- The development of the gas storage facility will enable ScottishPower to store additional reserves there by helping to balance customer needs and gas supplies.
